I want to know the cost of accessories. 1) Cost of plating

In fact, even if the cost of accessories is the same as the material and quality, the cost varies depending on how much the wholesaler produces at a time. It is a matter of productivity that if you produce a lot, the production cost will be lowered. And the cost varies widely depending on the production process. So, it's hard to say how much the production cost of this kind of product is.

So it's better to just understand the cost concept of fashion jewelry than to just tell you the cost for each production stage.

1) Cost of plating

The factors that greatly affect the cost of plating are the material of the product, the thickness of plating, and the type of plating.

▪️ Types of plating

 

 

Plating Price: Silver color < Pink Gold < OR ( OR Journal Rhodium) < Platinum Plating

1. Silver Color : Only the pattern is silver color. The real Silver doesn't go in. It is a common color that we often see in wholesale market.

2. Gold Color : Very very little real gold, but also gold-colored materials. But the cost is a little higher than the normal silver color.

3. Pink Gold Color : If we have a Silver design, we may use a little real gold, but we tend to use materials that are similar in color like gold plating. 

There is a difference in the cost of silver, gold and pink gold here, but small designs do not have a big difference in the cost of plating, so wholesalers sell them at the same price regardless of the cost of each province.

OR (Original rhodium) Plating: Using the original rhodium, the cost of plating increases significantly from then on. OR is really expensive. So it is not used for accessories and is used for products beyond Silver material. 

 

Sometimes there are wholesalers that use OR to make accessories, earrings, necklaces, and rings, but the cost is so high that they are gradually reducing their use due to price competitiveness.

If the plating area of the product is large like a necklace bracelet, there will be a big difference in the plating price. Then, products larger than earrings such as necklace, bracelets will be sold at different prices depending on the type of plating.

The silver product plating ( Silver Silver 92.5 < Gold < Pink Gold < OR (orijournal rhodium) < White gold plating) is the same, but the silver product is more difficult for plating, so it is more expensive for plating in the same area than ordinary new products (regular products). 

 

So some stores sell gold or rose gold silver earrings (a necklace...) for 1,000 to 3,000 krw (Korea Currency)  more than silver + silver plating.

 

▪️ Plating material price : Nickel-free > Nickel 

Nickel (plating) has the advantage of having a brighter gloss and less discoloration than nickel - free (plating). But nickel is also the cause of allergies. I will explain about plating later.

Nickel free means that is without nickel. Nickel free plating has the disadvantage of being slightly less glossy and easier to discolor than nickel plating, but it also has the advantage of being less likely to develop allergies than nickel.

 

It is said that plating without nickel should be cheaper because it does not contain nickel, but the price will go up because the plating process is a little more complicated than nickel plating.

I heard from the owner of the wholesale company that..if there is no nickel, so the plating is thicker in other plating processes. That's why the price is going up a little bit as it has thickened, but it doesn't really make a big difference.

And in China, the price is the same as that of nickel-free plating and nickel-plated(As we'll talk about later, in China, the plating is very thin, and the plating is coated with a film and sold) . The price of nickel-free plating is higher than that of nickel-plated products in KOREA

▪️ Thickness of plating : Thicker, more expensive

Regular retailers (shopping malls, offline stores) or consumers don't care very much about the thickness of plating. In fact, I didn't think about the thickness of the plating before. Because I don't know what factors affect the quality of the product rather than I don't care.

The thicker the plating is, the brighter the surface gloss and the longer the plating discoloration. Discoloration is because the surface is corroded or peeled, so if the thickness of the external plating is thick, the discoloration is naturally late. However, the thickness of plating is sometimes thinned to reduce production costs.

The production cost will decrease, but it looks the same when it was first produced, so we don't know if it's thick or thin. But the customer use the product If it have the thin plating, the gloss of the plating starts to fade quickly

Sometimes in wholesale stores they say like this. "We do a lot of plating," which means, "We may think the cost is high, but we care about the quality." 

 

▪️ Special plating treatment

- Electro plating

There is general plating and there is electric plating. If you do electric plating, it gives good light and less discoloration. But again, the cost of plating goes up. But ordinary people can't tell, so they talk in advance at the wholesale store.

"Wfe are doing electroplating"

"The cost has increased, but I'll give you the same price... But... the quality is better, so please know this~"

"The cost has gone up... The sales price has gone up a little, but the quality is still better... Please know this~"

But in the past, you used to put it in a plating solution, but now you put it in the plating solution and send electricity to the product to make it easier for the plating solution to stick to the plating solution. These days, most wholesalers do electric plating.

- Coating

You can think of coating as covering the membrane on the coating outside the product. In other words, it means coating one membrane. If you coat it, it will surely last long. The plating is weak to sweat or salt, but it creates a film on top of the coating, so the salt or air does not directly touch the plating, so the plating lasts longer. However, once more coating is done on the existing plating, the cost increases.

General wholesalers doesn't know this well, but when exporting abroad, they sometimes coat the products according to the buyer's request. Exports abroad are often more sensitive to discoloration. Then if you think it's better to coat and prevent discoloration even if the cost goes up, you can coat it.

However, wholesalers do not often coat the plating, but when they do coating, they put a film on top of the coating, so the color of the plating is slightly dull, and the plating does not come out properly when plating (when plating again when the plating is discolored...).

In other words, there is a need for re-payment of AS or inventory for discoloration, but wholesalers do not prefer it because there are difficulties at that time
